Jeremiah 47

Jer 47:1

Jer 47: "Jeremiah's prophecy concerns some of his neighbouring nations. Yahweh would extend his sword against the enemies of His people. Here He addresses the Philistines on the west of the land and describes the work of His 'servant' Nebuchadnezzar. The Philistines were Indo-Europeans from Caphtor (Crete: cp Amos 9:7), the main wave of them settling in sw Palestine, as 'the land of Peleat', in the twelfth century BC. The prophet pronounces: [1] The advance of Nebuchadnezzar: vv 1-4. A condition of extreme terror would confront the people as they flee before the invader. [2] The results of the invasion: vv 5-7. So Yahweh would be vindicated, and those who touch the 'apple of His eye' would receive divine judgment quickly executed" (GEM).
