Summary: During the early growth of the church, the
gospel was spread by travelling preachers. Preachers could also travel spreading
different teachings. This letter is addressed to "an elect lady" who is advised
not to have fellowship with those teachers who bring wrong doctrine. The ideas
of love, truth, and obedience are emphasized.
Key verses: "I am not writing you a new command but one
we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is
love: that we walk in obedience to his commands" (2Jo 1:5,6).
